Statemently reads your bank statement, checks the numbers against the statement’s own balances, and tells you what it could and couldn’t confirm. This page explains what you’ll see.
What the statement statuses mean
- Processing. The statement is still being read and checked.
- Verified. The extracted transactions reconcile with the balances printed on the statement, and every transaction passed Statemently's checks.
- Review required. Transactions were extracted, but one or more checks couldn't be completed or need a person to look — for example a missing closing balance or a hard-to-read row.
- Unbalanced. The extracted transactions don't add up to the closing balance printed on the statement. Some transactions may be missing or misread.
- Failed. Processing failed and no usable statement data could be produced.
Marked as reviewed means you looked through a statement and marked it as reviewed. It records that you reviewed it; it does not change whether the balances reconcile, and it is not a certification that the figures are correct.
How verification works
Verification checks whether the extracted transactions reconcile with the balances printed on your statement: the opening balance, plus money in, minus money out, must equal the printed closing balance, and every running balance must follow from the one before it. Statemently also checks that every transaction has a readable date and amount.
If any of those checks can’t be completed — for example the statement doesn’t print a closing balance — the statement is shown as Review required, never as Verified. Verification is conservative on purpose.
Reviewing a statement
Open a statement to see its checklist and any issues that need a look. Each issue links to the transaction (and page, when known). You can correct a transaction, then save. Statemently re-checks the balances after every save.
Possible duplicates
Two transactions with the same date, amount, direction and description are shown as a possible duplicate. Statemently never deletes them for you — paying the same merchant twice in a day is often genuine. If the running balance shows both transactions were applied, they’re treated as legitimate repeats. You can mark a pair as “Not a duplicate” from the transaction details.
Scanned statements, photos and image recognition
Text PDFs are read directly. Scanned pages and photos are first read by Statemently’s own text recognition on our servers. On paid plans, if that reading can’t be verified, images of the affected pages may be sent to an AI provider (Groq) to transcribe them. Statemently then parses and checks every number itself — AI output is never treated as correct just because it looks valid. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
Each paid plan includes a monthly allowance of AI-read pages. When it runs out you’ll see “Advanced image recognition limit reached”; the statement is still processed with standard recognition. A text-based PDF from your bank always gives the most reliable result.
Ask Statemently
Ask questions like “Where did I spend the most?” or “How much did I pay Rahul?”. Every figure in an answer is calculated by Statemently from your transactions, and you can open the exact transactions behind it. Amounts in different currencies are never added together.
Multiple currencies
Statemently does not convert currencies. When your statements use more than one currency, totals, charts and comparisons are shown separately for each currency.
Exports
Export to Excel, CSV or JSON on every plan. Paid plans add import-compatible files for QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, Wave, Tally and a plain ledger. These are compatible files, not official integrations — check the import preview in your accounting software before posting.
Deleting your data
Delete a single statement from the Statements page, or delete every statement — or your whole account — from Settings. Deletion removes the transactions and related records immediately and can’t be undone.
What Statemently is not
Statemently is a tool for reading and organising your own statements. It is not a bank, an accountant, an auditor or a financial adviser, and it doesn’t give investment, tax or credit advice. Always check important figures against your original statement.
